2. What kinds of personal information do we collect?
On the website, we collect the following information either from the child or the child’s parent or guardian: (1) name of the child, (2) name of the parent or guardian, (3) parent or guardian address, (4) parent or guardian phone number, (5) parent or guardian date of birth.
3. How is the information collected?
We collect the information on our website via a form that either the child or the parent or guardian can fill in.
4. How do we use the personal information?
We only use the personal information for the purposes of facilitating the Terry Fator Scholarship Competition.
5. Do we disclose the information to third parties?
No. We only use the information we collect for internal purposes.
6. Can we require more disclosure than is necessary?
No. We may not require more disclosure than is necessary. As you will see, all that we require are identifying markers which will help us identify the child who is submitting their entry for the Terry Fator Scholarship Competition.
7. Must a parent or guardian authorize our collection of the information?
Yes. In order for us to comply with applicable federal law, which is otherwise known as Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), we must obtain a parent or guardian’s verifiable consent. Because we are only using the information submitted by the child for internal purposes in connection with the child’s submission for The Terry Fator Scholarship Competition, we only need to comply with what is known as “e-mail plus” verification.
We will send the parent or guardian an e-mail explaining what information we collect from the child, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. If we don’t receive the parental consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parental contact information and any other information collected from the child. Once the parent or guardian clicks the applicable consent button, a confirmation e-mail will be sent again to the parent or guardian’s e-mail address which contains the same information as the initial e-mail, and which reaffirms the parent or guardian’s consent.
8. Can a parent or guardian rescind or cancel the authorization?
Yes. At any time, parents can request that we delete from our records the personal information we have collected in connection with that account. Please keep in mind that a request to delete records will lead to a termination of the applicable account, which means all of the child’s materials, including videos or recordings, that are in our possession or control will be deleted from our servers and no longer retrievable by us. To delete personal information for a child from our records, please send us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will delete the account as soon as practicable soon thereafter.
